A desirable neighborhood bursting with unique restaurants in Franklin Township.

Welcome to Somerset

The perfect balance between urban and suburban, Somerset is an ideal neighborhood for those seeking a diverse lifestyle. A developing community in Franklin Township, New Jersey, Somerset is a census-designated area of about 6.3 square miles and offers dozens of incredible restaurants and beautiful parks. With a population of just over 22,000 residents, Somerset is the ideal community for those seeking a laid-back lifestyle while still having plenty of things to do.

Somerset is located one hour outside of Manhattan and offers a diverse mix of housing options. Residents can choose from tree-lined suburban developments or find a luxury property closer to the New Brunswick side of town. Find 1960 Cape Cods in smaller neighborhoods or look along the outskirts for a property on a few sprawling acres – Somerset has it all! Many residents are young professionals who commute to Manhattan and enjoy the spacious streets, parks, and family-friendly community atmosphere that Somerset provides.

Known as one of the most diverse neighborhoods, Somerset has so many unique restaurants, you’ll want to try them all! Visit 20 Taphouse for the best brews in the area and enjoy one of their classic burgers or “handwiches.” Stage House Tavern offers rustic American fare with a huge outdoor seating area that can accommodate up to 700 guests. If you’re craving seafood, Archar Seafood is Somerset’s hidden gem. Incredibly popular (and delicious), this seafood market has everything from soft-shell crabs to smoked whiting and seasonal fish and is known across multiple neighborhoods for its wonderful hospitality and service. Serving French comfort food, Sophie’s Bistro on Hamilton Street is another local spot that offers delicious lunch and dinner options in an inviting atmosphere. Come for a glass of wine with friends and enjoy a traditional French dish made with passion and creativity.

Somerset is also bursting with opportunities to get outside and enjoy the expansive parks, historical attractions, and lush green spaces. Colonial Park is 685-acres of scenic views of the Delaware and Raritan Canal, prize-winning horticulture displays, and Spooky Brook Golf Course, an 18-hole championship course within the park’s grounds. You can also find large picnic areas, pavilions, and a 1.4-mile paved fitness course.

An accredited All-American Rose Selections display garden, Somerset’s Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden features over 3,000 roses of 325 varieties. Created for enjoyment and named for Somerset’s first horticulturist with the county park system, the garden is a beautiful spot for photos and relaxation.
